Application for the 2020-2021 Curatorial Internship Program should be submitted through the CCA online application portal and consist of the 2 following documents, in English or in French, in PDF format (5MB maximum for each file):
1) A critical analysis of 750 to 1,000 words of a CCA collection object, event or exhibition;
2) A curriculum vitae detailing education, professional experience, working languages, and any other relevant information.
Contact information for two academics or professionals who are familiar with the candidate and his or her work will also need to be provided.

Curatorial Internships
The Curatorial Internship Program is designed to share the
CCA’s expertise with students and young professionals in architecture,
the design disciplines, the arts, the humanities, and cultural studies
who are interested in exploring editorial and curatorial work in
architecture. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to become
acquainted with the CCA’s curatorial approach—in particular its
collection, exhibitions, editorial projects, and research
programs—through a nine-month internship in Montréal beginning in the
fall of 2020.

Eligibility and terms
Students and young professionals born on or after 1 January
1990 are eligible for the annual curatorial internship program,
regardless of citizenship and place of residence. We expect interns to
have completed or be enrolled in a university-level program.
The program provides a monthly stipend of CA$ 2,500 over a period of nine months, calculated to defray costs of living in Montréal (subject to the income tax laws of Canada and Québec if applicable). The languages in use at the CCA are English and French. The internship is non-renewable.

Under the guidance of the Chief Curator, the interns will
collaborate in the research for and preparation of exhibitions,
publications, educational initiatives, public programs, and
communications and collection activities.

Selection
The CCA will select the interns and will notify all
applicants by the end of April 2020. The CCA will select the candidates
according to their curricula, the relevance of their critical thinking
about architecture, and their intended trajectory in the fields of
curating and publishing.
The internship will be effective only after the recipient has obtained all authorizations from the immigration authorities of both Quebec and Canada required in order to be legally entitled to conduct the internship in Canada.

The internship is designed for students and young professionals in architecture, design, the arts, humanities, and cultural studies who are interested in exploring editorial and curatorial work in architecture. We expect interns to have completed or be enrolled in a university-level program. While applicants do not need to have formal training in architecture, evidence of a sustained interest in the field is preferred.4) If I am born before 1 January 1990, can I apply?
We will not make exceptions on the accepted age range of applicants. We will only consider applications from candidates born on or after 1 January 1990.5) Are language tests or certificates required?
We do not ask applicants to pass any language tests or hold any language certifications. However, we work primarily in English and French, and expect that curatorial interns be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking in at least one of the two languages.6) Does the CCA offer architectural training? Will I receive an educational diploma after the curatorial internship?
We do not offer professional architectural training. After finishing the curatorial internship, neither a certificate nor a diploma will be granted.7) What is a critical analysis? Where can I find information about the CCA collection, events, exhibitions, or articles?
The critical analysis is an open prompt, such that applicants can demonstrate their interests in curatorial work, their thought processes, and give a sense of their ideas about architecture and the built environment in 750 to 1,000 words. The critical analysis must be related to our collection, one of our events, one of our exhibitions, or one of our articles.8) Is this a full-time internship?

In all cases requiring a visa and/or a work permit, the CCA cannot guarantee that these documents will be obtained, as immigration decisions are made by Immigration Canada.14) Can I study while being a curatorial intern?
